Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Electoral security is crucial in ensuring that voters feel safe and confident in participating in elections. In Kano Municipal Local Government, Kano State, concerns about electoral violence, intimidation, and other security threats have affected voter turnout in past elections. This study seeks to assess the role of electoral security in shaping voter participation, focusing on how the presence or absence of security measures during elections influences voter behavior in Kano Municipal Local Government (Aliyu & Kachalla, 2024).
1.2 Statement of the Problem
In Kano Municipal, the issue of electoral security has been a recurrent challenge. Violence, voter intimidation, and harassment during elections have discouraged many citizens from voting, leading to low voter turnout. The lack of proper security measures has often resulted in chaos and a lack of confidence in the electoral process. This study will evaluate how security during elections affects voter turnout and the effectiveness of electoral security measures in Kano Municipal (Zubairu & Adamu, 2023).
